Overview

If our customer is accessing oneDesktop through a RDP connection, this guide will cover creating the connection file.

Scope of This How To Article

This guide will follow the basic settings for the .RDP file for RDSH sessions. Customers may have different settings, but those will not be reviewed in this guide. This will only cover users using Windows 10.

Prerequisite and Requirements

End users will need to have the services provisioned through oCCP, as well as their credentials to access oneDesktop.

Step-by-Step Guide

Create a RDP Shortcut

Sub-Step #InstructionScreenshot
1.1In the search bar, type in RDP.

1.2

This should bring up Remote Desktop Connection.

Click on Remote Desktop Connection to open it.

1.3Click Show Options so we can make the necessary setting changes.

1.4

In the Computer field, enter the end users' server name. In this example, it is CR1001-TS-01, but the customer's server will vary. If you don't know what the customer's server is called, reach out to the Tier 2 team.

In the User Name field, enter the UPN (usually matches the user's email address). The UPN can be found in oCCP is the user is unsure of what it is.

1.5

Next, click the Display tab. If the user has multiple monitors, and wants to use them all, select Use all my monitors for the remote session.

Depending on if the user needs to switch between the local and the remote desktop, they can also deselect Display the connection bar when I use full screen. The connection bar makes it easy to switch from local to remote desktops, but can get in the way if this is not necessary.

1.6

Next, click to Local Resources tab. This is where options for sound or connected devices are found.

Printers and Clipboard are selected by default, but make sure they are selected.  You can click the More button to see other options.

From in the More menu, you can select local drives, connected devices, etcetera, to pass through RDP. We will not be covering this in the guide, as it will be user specific.

1.7

Next, click on the Advanced tab.

From the Advanced tab, click Settings.

1.8

Select Use these RD Gateway server settings: and then enter rdsh.nirix.com as the server name.

Deselect Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses

Select Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer

1.9

Click back to the General tab.

Click Save As...

1.10

Name the RDP shortcut as required. I have named it NIRIX Desktop in this guide. I have also placed it on the Desktop of the User, for convenient access.

Once you are done, click Save.

1.11You can now close Remote Desktop Connection.

1.12The shortcut that was created can now be double clicked. All the settings should be saved in it.

1.13

The first time the connection is opened, there will be a notification as shown here. Click Don't ask me again for connections to this computer.

Then click Connect.

1.14

The users password will then be requested. I would suggest NOT clicking the Remember me button.

Enter their password and then click OK.

1.15The first time the connection is made, the following will also be displayed. Click the Don't ask me again for connections to this computer and then click Yes.

1.16The connection will then start!

The changes documented above are specific to the NIRIX Shared Hosting Environment only.
