How to - Creating Shortcuts and Pinning Applications in Windows

Overview

This How-to guide is to provide a detailed step by step instruction for creating desktop shortcuts and pinning applications to the Taskbar in oneDesktop.

Prerequisites and Requirements

To successfully complete either of these actions in oneDesktop you will need the following:

  • Access to oneDesktop, along with credentials

Step 1.0 - Creating desktop shortcuts for programs

While logged into oneDesktop, press the Star Menu button, and type the name of the program you wish to pin to the Taskbar.

 

In this example, we’ll search for Google Chrome.

Right-click the listing for the program you want to create a desktop shortcut for, and then click ‘Open file location’.

A new window will appear, with the program you want a shortcut for highlighted.

Right-click the listing for the program you want a shortcut for, and then click ‘Create shortcut’.

If/when prompted with a warning that looks like the example, click on ‘Yes’.

 

The shortcut should now appear on your desktop. If it didn’t automatically appear there, check the window that appeared in Step 1.3 to see if the shortcut was created there, and copy the shortcut to the desktop.

 

Step 2.0 - Pinning Applications to the Taskbar

While logged into oneDesktop, press the Star Menu button, and type the name of the program you wish to pin to the Taskbar.

 

In this example, we’ll search for Google Chrome.

Right-click the listing for the program you want to pin, and then click ‘Pin to taskbar’.

The program will now be pinned alone the Taskbar. You can re-order the Taskbar list by clicking and dragging a program icon along the Taskbar.
