Overview
When using an email service (M365, Google Workspace etc.) over the internet in Outlook, it is usually recommended to switch to Cached Mode. This way, Outlook won’t have to reach out to the server for every email, which may cause freezes and delays.
This guide will walk you through setting up your account in cached mode.
Steps
Step 1.0 - Set up Cached Mode
Sub-Step # | Instruction | Screenshot |
---|---|---|
1.1 | Open Outlook and click File. | |
1.2 | Click Account Settings which will bring up a drop down of more selections. Click Account Name and Sync Settings. | |
1.3 | Make sure Use Cached Exchange Mode is checked. Then you can use the slider to determine how much mail is cached. The longer the time period, the more emails will be locally available for immediate search - but the slower the search will become, and the more space on your drive it will use. The recommended is 3 months. Click Next. | |
1.4 | You will need to restart Outlook once you are done making the changes. Click Done. Close Outlook. Once you reopen it, Outlook will download the messages from the period specified in the previous step. This may take a while, depending on how many emails you have to download. Once it is complete, your Outlook should respond faster. |
The changes documented above are specific to the NIRIX Shared Hosting Environment only. |
